MyUCA problems?
I'm trying to get the tutorials for the 3D maya work of MyUCA but I'm running into some trouble.
Week 4 works fine but the other 3 weeks get HTTP 404 errors. So will it be fixed in a matter of time or am I gonna have to get the files from elsewere?

Uncharted 2 Animation
I got Uncharted 2: Among Thieves today in the post. Just watch this if your interested in animation.

I have never seen better animation in a Game. Films have Pixar. I think games just found there version. Plus the game is pure Awesome.

The Worlds First Face Transplant.
We watched this documentry on Tuesday. At first I wasn't really sure what this had to do with portrait until the thought of identity was said. Which made me think me about whats inside and out.
I'm not one to be squimish or shy away from blood and gore but one thing did turn my stomach. Isabelle Dinoire was the unfortunate woman in question and I thought the lower half of her face was an undeniable skull. When the doctors had to loosen the muscles around her mother was just horrible. There was no blood or gore but for some reason I hated that part. It could have been the fact that the top half of Isabelles face was perfect while her lower half was practically a skull. But she made it through and more happy then ever. Good.
But It has made me question my Final Portrait. We, as humans, are shallow. Fact. So how could I deform my face with out obvoiuse Photoshop use? Well people say how worse off we are in the morning and how our faces change throughout the day.
Idea 1: A photo of my face taken on the hour, every hour, for 24 hours. This symbolies that our faces are our identity and how differently we react to people when they look different. This would be arranged into like a collage on Photoshop.
Ideas 2: This incorparated with my Thumbnail idea to show I'm the same person I always have been throughout but looking different as the day goes on.

Essay portraits
These are the portraits by Hans Holbein the younger that I will be anaylsing and comparing for my essay question.
The Ambassadors:
How could I leave out the portrait that made me look into Hans Holbein and his portraits. The Memento of the skull and the 'with stuff' look is what intrigues me and I will looking more in depth the portrait and the symbolisms behind the objects.
Henry VIII of England:
This portrait is pretty basic in every way. Thats the reason I chose it. I need a simple one to use as fodder and compare the other complicated ones.
The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb:
Thats right: this is a portrait of Jesus Christ. This will be the most interesting to analyse because it is one of Holbeins more 'other-worldly' portraits. Quite a contrast to Henry VIII.
Venus and Amor:
One of Holbeins few portraits of womem. This will be interested to look at due the way the baby is placed and the general body language of Venus. This is also known as 'Venus and Cupid'.
I don't want to go into to much depth here because I want detailed reviews in my essay as opposed to me blog.
Any feedback?
Elephant Man- my thoughts
Elephant man is a film directed by the Legend that is David Lynch. I wouldn't say he has done many films but the ones he has done have been masterpieces in direction.
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of black and white. It's mainly because I from a generation of colour. Having said that, if the movie is good, then it can be pink and teal for all I can. Was this movie good? Hell yes.
The black and white really lends an air of atmosphere to the whole film which would be impossible if shot in colour.
But the story is what sells it. I don't know the historical accuracy but this was just a tale about one man who, unfortunately, is deformed. Is it his fault? no. Is it anyone Else's? also no. But he is just a normal man.
Put simply the performances where great. And the transition from sideshow freak to a man on display at a hospital we saw that John Merrick is a kind and smart man.
The asks lots of questions relating to Medicine and the prejudice in society then, and possibly even now.
To sum it up: A great story and excellent performances by the cast all complimented by Lynch's Direction
And it gave the world a line so powerful it defines the entire film:
'I am NOT an elephant! I AM NOT AN ANIMAL! I AM A HUMAN BEING! I...AM...A MAN!'

Heres the second week drawings:

This was like last weeks were we had to draw in only lines. This took like 30 minutes to draw but we had an hour to draw it. I reached a point where I didn't want to ruin it so I stopped.

The second of the two. This was to do with measurment of the person. meaning we had to use our pencil to measure it all. I think it was all in proportion.

Final Idea V.2
You may have read my idea for mt portrait but after reading Phils interim review I'm going to mix it up. Make it more technical. I'm going to stick with the Thumbprint idea because I love the idea of being analytical as opposed to 'looking in at myslf'. I want an honest, scientific if you will, look at me.
So now the portrait is in two parts. First is still the thumbprint that I will have to clean up because I'll be using an ink stamp. The second new part is like a collage of every photo I have. I'm going through all my photos and putting all the faces into the portrait behind the thumbprint. All the faces will have different visibility depending on there importance in my life. such as people I barley know or knew, will be hard to see. My family and close friends will be in plain sight.
What I'm trying to say is:
'This is me (thumbprint), and these are people that made me into that.' Its like a continuous loop.

Micro Men on BBC4
Just a quickie.
I just finished watching a drama/documentary on BBC4 called 'Micro Men'. It was basically about the rise of Home computers. I won't go into to much detail just in case you want to watch it but I thought it was actually really good. The way they combined old footage of adverts and news broadcasts with the actors portraying. Martin Freeman played Chris Curry, the man that created 'Acorn computers' and the 'BBC Micro'. Alexander Armstrong plays 'Sir Clive Sinclair', The man that fundamentally pioneered home computer use around the world. He also created the Legendary 'ZX Spectrum'.
I thought the way the story was told was excellent as well as telling you the real story. I never really knew that Britain was at the front of the computer and, surprisingly brought the Games industry to the main stream.
I also found it ironic that Curry made a system with the BBC that was serious. For schools and offices. While Sinclair made a system that turned into a games console and that seen as entertainment. The ironic thing is, Sinclair wanted to be taken seriously, while Curry saw that money was in the games/entertainment industry.
Two scenes keep standing out in my mind: When Chris Curry sees half of WHSmith filled with 'Spectrum' games and realises the future (which is now real).
And the other was at the very end. Sinclair is driving in away in his C5 electric Car. To me this symbolised that Clive Sinclair was at the forefront of the computer engineering in the 80s. Then HUGE Microsoft and HP trucks overtake his little car. This, to me, symbolised two things. Sinclair and his company being left in the dust by these massive American Figures. And how Corporate America has overtaken little ol' Britain.
It seems to be a forgotten page in history. How Britain created the Home computer and gave the Games Industry meaning outside the Arcades. And BBC get no recognition for there huge part.
In the end a great watch. Try finding it on BBC Iplayer. Especially if you like games and computers in general.
